Experiencing stress and a loss of resilience?
- Do you feel as if you are constantly “ON”?
- Do you often feel restless and find it hard to truly relax?
- Have you been through distressing or overwhelming experiences that still affect how you feel today?
- Do you often feel uneasy, tense, or angry?
- Do you frequently feel withdrawn, low, or anxious?
- Do you often experience tension in your body that does not go away?
- Do you find it difficult to sense your own boundaries and to express them?
- These can be signs of chronic stress, burnout, or trauma.
In my practice in Groningen, I work as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner®.
You are welcome to work with me if you would like to become more familiar with sensing your body, regulating tension, and understanding how stress shows up for you.
Change can arise when we understand how our body responds to what we experience and remember,
and how this shapes our emotions, thoughts, and behavior.
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented therapeutic approach focused on the treatment of stress- and trauma-related symptoms. It supports the release of stuck survival responses such as fight, flight, or freeze and promotes resilience and recovery. Somatic Experiencing® is applied within various professional fields including psychotherapy, medicine, coaching, education and physiotherapy, always within the practitioner’s professional scope of practice.
The method was developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine and integrates insights from physiology, psychology, neurology, ethology, biology and medical biophysics. Somatic Experiencing® works by guiding clients in safely tolerating difficult bodily sensations and completing blocked defensive responses, allowing the body to regain balance and regulation.
Trauma arises when stress is not adequately processed, such as after accidents, medical procedures, abuse, neglect, war, loss or prolonged systemic pressure. This approach helps release accumulated tension and restores the body’s natural capacity to cope with stress. It also explains why animals rarely develop trauma. They instinctively complete defensive responses such as freezing and shaking, responses that humans often suppress. Somatic Experiencing® teaches clients how to understand their body’s signals and support the body’s own recovery process.
